I am pleased to write you about my campaign for EISD School Board, Place Four, and about some of the issues facing the Eanes community. Please feel free to unsubscribe if you do not wish to receive these updates.
For those of you who are receiving this newsletter for the first time, there are two main points I hope you will learn:
- I am involved and informed as a mother of three children in EISD schools ( 3rd, 7th and 10th grade) and as a volunteer (including serving as the past president of the Eanes Elementary school PTO and as task force member for the campus master plan initiative)
- I am an architect with a solution for our fiscal challenges and maintaining excellence in our schools.
This election is about a choice we must make: are we going to invest in our school system and the future of our community or not? I believe we should make wise investments that will save us money, improve our schools, protect property values, and enrich the school experience for teachers and students. My rationale is at my website.
Most of us in the Eanes community appreciate the benefits of sound investments. We choose to spend our dollars on quality houses because they hold their value, save us money on repairs, and are pleasant to experience. We have the same opportunity with education. With wise investments, we can accomplish many goals at once such as enhancing teacher effectiveness, managing class sizes, maintaining program stability, maximizing energy savings and increasing opportunities to generate revenue that we can then spend on teachers.
I am an architect. I help my clients make smart investments that improve the quality of their homes. I specialize in minimizing their investment and maximizing their gain. I help them to invest their dollars in solutions that are simple, practical, flexible, and energy efficient. I educate them on ways that spending money wisely up front can help them realize significant savings in the long run. And for those of us who believe in wisely investing in our own cars and homes as a way to protect our own futures, it makes sense that we also adopt the same mindset with investments our community makes in public infrastructure; for us, investing in roads, water lines, and schools makes sense.
Many of our buildings, spread out over nine campuses, are at capacity and are in need of extensive repair. When we decide to invest in our district's biggest and longest-lived assets--our campus buildings and green spaces--I can offer useful insights and inform the dialogue about those decisions. My architectural perspective at the Trustee table can be useful in identifying strategies for making these capital improvements fiscally responsible, foreword thinking, sustainable, and flexible while enriching the property values and businesses of district residents. My commitment to community engagement will ensure that when our district does present an investment opportunity to our voters, we come to the polls united in our support.
If you do not believe in making smart and quality investments for our future, then I am not your candidate.
But, if you believe that our legacy of excellence in education is worth protecting and that the time to invest in the future is now, then I would be honored to have your vote.
You can show your support by voting YES for Prop #1 and YES for Julia Webber, Place Four on May 9th. Early voting is April 27 - May 5th.
Thank you for engaging and for participating in this important election for our community.
